Tips for breastfeeding success
Many mothers have taken the resolve to go with what mother nature had intended and have made the decision to breastfeed. If you do not breastfeed, bottle feeding is perfectly fine. However, getting started is not always as easy as you imagined it. If your experience was anything like mine, you may have found it challenging in the beginning. If that is the case, here are some tips for you:
- It's okay if you feel frustrated. There is no reason to feel guilty.
- You will get a lot of advice from a lot of different sources. It is up to you to decide what advice is right for you. Don't feel obligated to try it all. In my experience, it took almost two months for my son to breastfeed successfully. Now he's a pro. But in between that time, I supplemented.
- Take advantage of all resources. Most hospitals offer assistance in nursing. La Leche Leagues give personal assistance to mothers who need help. I used the Mercy Hospital Lactation Consultants, located off of W Memorial Rd. They give one-on-one assistance and offer classes. These women are amazing, especially Genie, who was an amazing help in my case.
- It's okay to cry if you feel like it. Sometimes that's what you need to move forward.
