Well, against all odds I am still spending time with T. I like him, and although we're not serious and won't ever be, (although I wonder, if I was 5 years older...) I'm really enjoying my time with him while I have it.
Anyway, this post is about a restaurant I went to the other night with him. He is a vegetarian, and when I choose a restaurant for us to go to, I always choose a place that has vegetarian options. He insists that most Asian restaurants have a tofu option, but I want to choose a place that is welcoming to veggies like him.
When I used to live in SoHo, I walked past Spring Street Natural practically every day, but I never ate there before. I heard that Heath Ledger, who died nearby, used to patronize it. Which is besides the point.
It's very warm and inviting inside, there are so many tables that you probably won't have to wait too long, even on a weekend night. While I wouldn't have shelled out the money for dinner with a friend, I knew that T. would be paying. It's still not impossible on a budget. I had a glass of wine, T. had a cocktail. We split two appetizers and had an entree each. The bill came to about $70, I believe. We had roasted tofu (with an amazing peanut sauce) and one of the specials of the night for appetizers. Both were really, really good. For dinner, I ordered the plaintain crusted mahi-mahi. While it was tasty, the spicy sauce overwhelmed everything else completely. And where were the plantains? I don't know.
T. ordered the stuffed acorn squash, which I tasted. I didn't like it, but to each his own. The restaurant is all about organic and lightly processed food. It's very earthy and wholesome, and, well, natural.
Here is Spring Street Natural Restaurant's website. It's located on the corner of Spring and Lafayette, right off the 6 train.
On an unrelated note, I'm on Twitter! Find me at http://twitter.com/christianay. I need someone to talk to on it!
