As reported on David Cook's official web site, his new single, "Come Back to Me," has given him a status on Billboard that only two musicians before David (John Mayer and Rob Thomas) have achieved -- with its move from #11 to #10 on the Adult Top 40 charts, David now has three songs in the Top 10. "Come Back to Me" joins "Time of My Life," which reached no. 7, and "Light On," which peaked at No. 4.
As is also noted on David's web site, all three songs can be heard on his self-titled debut album, "which bowed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in December and has sold 1,174,000 to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan."
Some people are skeptical of the staying power of Idol alumnus but, with this news as well as the recent news of the increase in sales by Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson, I'd say that these folks aren't going anywhere. Since David burst on to the music scene on AI with his original takes on some old favorites (ie) Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"), he's proved he's here for good.
I have the opportunity to interview David tomorrow, so come back Sunday for the article!
