Tonight's episode "Frenzy",  introduced two new characters: Sookie's long lost cousin Hadley, who lives with her lover, the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, in a decadent mansion. As played by Evan Rachel Wood, the Queen is capricious, wise and bloodthirsty. It is to her that Bill and later Eric turn to vanquish Maryann from Bon Temps.  The Queen tells Bill that in order for Maryann to do a Jimmy Hoffa, Maryann has to believe she has found the perfect vessel for her sacrifice to her god-and werewolves or shifters like Sam are just what the doctor ordered.

While Bill is getting this information, Bon Temps continues to descend into the bowels of hell. Jason and Andy arm themselves with ammo from the police station, which is now lawless and features the Sheriff dancing around in his boxers.

The only other sane people in town, Lafayette, Lettie Mae, Sookie and Tara are at Lafayette's. Tara, determined to save Eggs, is handcuffed to a table by Lafayette, until Lettie forces Lafayette via gun to give her the keys to the handcuffs to free Tara.

Traumatized by being on the business end of a rifle, Lafayette agrees to go to her old house to rescue Tara and kill Maryann. But it is not that simple. Sookie finds out that a giant egg has literally been laid and Marayann turns Lafayette into one her minions.

Best part of the episode: seeing Sookie become an interesting, independent, character once she is seperated from Bill.

Worst part: Evan Rachel Wood's light handed, amateurish portrayal of the Queen.
