"Scratches", tonight's latest "True Blood" episode, was the best one of the season so far. There was so much excitement, so much intrigue, it is hard to know where to begin. How about with the miniscule doctor who treated Sookie after she had been attacked by Bullman, a creature who looked straight out of Central Casting for Greek Mythology 101.
The tiny doctor took no guff from Eric and had no problem making her disdain for vampires apparent. Like Hitchcock, Alan Ball has the ablity to infuse seemingly minor characters, like Fangtasia waitress Ginger, with character.
And can we say hallelujah that Lafayette is finally free? Bon Temps is not Bon Temps without an acidic bon mot from Lafayette. But judging from the heartbreaking scene where Lafayette curled up in a fetal position when he was safe at home, it seems the old Lafayette has gone into hiding. The scene where Eric runs his arm over Lafayette's biceps and the clip for the new ep where he tells Lafayette he has to come out sometime spell trouble.
Speaking of trouble, Jessica has found herself a love interest and possible meal in Hoyt, the world's sweetest and dumbest mama's boy. This pairing might well be the vamp/human version of Leopold and Loeb. Nothing good can come of Jessica associating with Baby Huey.
Last, but not least, Daphne has finally become interesting now that we know that Bullman attacked her as well. Wonder how long it will be before Sam notices her scars?
On the not so great side, Maryann's storyline continues to add nothing to the show and Sookie's impending trip to Dallas might take attention away from the action in Bon Temps and even slow down the pace of the show. Worst of all, Jason's religious storyline continues to be tedious.
Unfortunately, the next new True Blood ep won't air till the 15th. Next week Fang Bangers can catch on all 3 previous "True Blood" eps.
