Kathryn Bertine was hoping for a three-day women's stage race at the Amgen Tour of California. It didn’t happen, and Bertine is not so happy about it. I’m with her.
The ATOC should be expanded in 2010 to include a women's stage race, and here’s hoping it happens.
In the meantime, Bertine is taking the next-best approach to counter-balance her frustration. She's a pro cyclist and she's the new Examiner writing about women’s cycling.
Bertine will be competing in the women’s criterium in Santa Rosa on Sunday. It will be held prior to the arrival of the men’s peloton in Stage 1 of the event from Sacramento. If you’re in the Santa Rosa area, the women's event is worth witnessing. If you’re not in the area, check out Bertine’s new site and read her first contribution. It's a poignant debut.
I’m counting on Bertine to have a lot to say on her site after the women's criterium. And I bet she'll have plenty more to say in other areas as a pro rider and as an ambasador for her sport.
