Gene Bisbee, who writes and edits much of the content on the site www.bikingbis.com, likes to keep abreast of television broadcasts of pro cycling.

He had a recent post, for example, on the ongoing negotiations among various networks for the rights to various races in Lance Armstrong’s pending 2009 comeback season.

Bisbee's latest television-and-cycling post is a succinct explanation of the the Versus Network’s coverage plans for the Tour Down Under, Armstrong’s first race.

The issue is the time zone difference between the United States and Australia. Bisbee expains:

“As best as I can figure, what Versus is broadcasting will not be live. It will be a recap of the previous day's action. That's because Adelaide, South Australia, is 15 and 1/2 hours ahead of New York. So when Versus broadcasts at 4 p.m. Jan. 18, in Adelaide it's actually 7:30 a.m. on Monday.”

The Versus broadcast schedule for the Tour Down Under (East Coast times):

4-4:30 p.m. - Sunday, Jan. 18
4:30-5 p.m. - Tuesday, Jan. 20
4:30-5 p.m. - Wednesday, Jan. 21
4:30-5 p.m. - Thursday, Jan. 22
4:30-5 p.m. - Friday, Jan. 23
3:30-4 p.m. - Saturday, Jan. 24
5-6 p.m. - Sunday, Jan. 25.

In real time, the first stage will begin Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. in Adelaide. That's 7:30 p.m. Monday in New York or 4:30 p.m. in California.

The last stage will begin at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 or 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 in New York or 7:15 p.m. in California.
