The first race of Lance Armstrong’s 2009 comeback season will be televised in North America by Versus, according to MediaPost.com.
The web site reported the Tour Down Under, scheduled Jan. 20-25 and beginning in Adelaide, will be broadcast exclusively by the network in 30-minute highlight shows during all of the event’s six days.
Details of the contract, MediaPost reported, will be finalized within the next few days between Versus and Eurocam, which holds the Australian broadcast rights to the event.
Versus is negotiating to interview Armstrong, the seven-time Tour de France winner, during the race. The event will be Armstrong's first international pro road race since he completed his seventh straight Tour de France in 2005.
MediaPost.com is also reporting Versus will broadcast the Amgen Tour of California, Armstrong’s first comeback race in the United States, beginning Feb. 14.
