USA Cycling, the sport’s national governing body, has announced a new national series of professional mountain bike cross-country races called the USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour.
The men's and women's seven-race series will open with the Fontana, Calif., round of the U.S. Cup on March 29. It will continue with the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey on April 19 and progress with the following events: Bump N’ Grind, Birmingham, Ala., May 31; Carmichael Training Systems San Creek International Classic, Colorado Springs, Colo., June 13; U.S. Cup, Mount Snow Resort, West Dover, Vt., August 8; Yankee Clipper, Windham Mountain, N.Y., August 15; USA Cycling ProXCT Finals, Las Vegas, Sept. 26.
The series final will be held one day after the industry’s annual gathering at the Interbike Expo.
The series will visit six states and offer series ranking points to top finishers, resulting in overall individual and team titles for men and women. Competitors will accumulate UCI points.
Sho-Air International, an airfreight forwarder and tradeshow transportation company, is the presenting sponsor.
The objectives of the inaugural USA Cycling ProXCT are to provide a sequence of international-caliber events for elite cross country racers, recognize the best cross country teams and athletes competing in the U.S., spotlight America’s top races that have made a commitment to host UCI-sanctioned events, and raise the level of competitive U.S, mountain bike racing.
A similarly organized gravity-based tour is expected to be announced soon.
