Cyclo-cross is a cool, demanding and still unheralded cycling discipline in the United States.
It has hardcore followers in various parts of the country, and I’ve seen few athletes put as much into their sport as I did a few years ago when the Cyclo-Cross National Championships were held at a winery in Yountville, Calif., in a mudbath the day after a horrendous rain dropped a foot of water in 24 hours.
But in Europe and particularly in Belgium, cyclo-cross rules. Which, of course, is a good enough reason why Belgian TV Channel VT4 will be broadcasting a live stream of the Superprestige Cyclo-Cross races.
The season begins Sunday, Oct. 12, with the series opener in Ruggenvooorde, Belgium.
Here’s the schedule:
Ruddervoorde (Belgium) Sunday October 12th
Eerde-Veghel (Netherlands) Sunday November 2nd
Hamme-Zogge (Belgium) Sunday November 23rd
Gavere (Belgium) Sunday November 16th
Gieten (Netherlands) Sunday November 30th
Diegem (Belgium) Sunday December 28th
Hoogstraten (Belgium) Sunday February 8th
Vorselaar (Belgium) Sunday February 15th
The live streaming is available on http://www.vt4.be.
Races are held in mid-afternoon in Belgium, which means morning in the United States. Check the web site for specifics.
