TV moms, just like real moms, tend to blend into the background at times and it’s no different on the Disney Channel. Most Disney moms are integral parts of the cast and the story; but at times they are overlooked. But they’re there nonetheless and their roles are all different just like in real life.
The Ghost Mom
On Hannah Montana we have the Ghost Mom. This mom, played by Brooke Shields, isn’t really a ghost but she does tend to appear in dreams and memories. Miley’s mom died when she was young but Disney has done a good job with Shield’s appearances in appropriate situations. She dispenses great mom-like advice and is a comforting presence during troubling times for Miley.
The Rocker Mom
Carey Martin, mom of mischievous twin duo Zack and Cody of The Suite Life fame is noticeably missing from The Suite Life on Deck. Present for the kick off to the series, she leaves these two to fend for themselves on a cruise ship under the watchful eye of Mr. Mosby. Maybe Carey, played by actress Kim Rhodes, went on to fame and fortune as a lounge singer. After all, that’s the part she played on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. In real life, Rhodes had a baby and word is that she took some time off to spend with her daughter. The show definitely misses her.
The Invisible Mom
Sonny’s mom evidently dropped her off to star in So Random in the Disney series Sonny With a Chance. But to her credit, when Sonny’s grades dropped as she focused more on the show than on school, her mom showed up to throw down the gauntlet…bring up the grades or no more show. Sonny fortunately brought up her math grade as the show must go on. And this one does without a whole lot of adults in the cast. With a cast of characters this great, why muck it all up with a bunch of grown-ups.
The Wealthy Mom
Not sure what J.O.N.A.S. mom does by day but it must be something to bring in lots of money. Who could afford a converted fire station to live in complete with beds that rise up with a click of a remote?
The Working Mom
Running a sandwich shop is hard work especially when you’re trying to keep up with three kids who are wizards in training. But Wizards of Waverly Place mom makes it work. It takes a great relationship with dad and the ability to stop whatever she is doing and be there for the kids. And she looks great too. Who says you can’t have it all?
Moms, you gotta love ‘em. And we do - especially Disney moms who look great and bring quite a bit of talent to the shows.
