Ah, Veteran’s Day — a holiday we can all support. So as Veteran’s Day is the last major holiday before Thanksgiving -- moreover, as Thanksgiving marks the “official” beginning of the holiday shopping season -- now is probably a good time to get an early jump on Christmas shopping. With that in mind, here are a few Houston Rockets related gift ideas to consider this holiday season.

I should acknowledge I gain no financial benefit from any transaction made from any of these items. These are nothing more than suggestions which hopefully can help if you’re struggling to conceive a good gift idea for someone.

Rockets Ticket Package
A wide variety of ticket packages, with varying degrees of cost, are available. There are 16, 12, 6 and even a 5-game package to cheer with the Red Rowdies (though this package seems to be sold out). Do you want a 16-game package? I’d recommend ticket plan B. 11 of the 12 games begin after Christmas, and it features a better group of opponents. You can watch the Rockets play the Milwaukee Bucks on New Year’s Eve, and then in 2009 watch games against the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Hornets and San Antonio Spurs.

If you want to watch 12 games, I would go with the premium package. Games against the Lakers, Hornets, Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons are prevalent. Though the only drawback is while the games with those specificially mentioned teams are played in 2009. If you use intend to give this gift on or around December 25, you’ll miss out on four games.

Lastly, for the six-pack, I’d recommend the Yao plan. Watching Yao go against players like Shaquille O’Neal, Greg Oden and Dwight Howard is worth it. Take into consideration you can get the pack for as low as $84, and all games begin after Christmas — it’s probably the best package of all.

Houston Rockets jersey
If you buy a ticket plan, you could give a jersey to go along with it. Replica jerseys are all that is necessary. Some may find it important to get an authentic jersey, but the differences between the two aren’t that drastic, and certainly not worth four times the price. If you want to give a loved one a custom jersey, you can. On the other hand, if you want to give someone a jersey similar to what Yao wears on any given night, you can too.

1994 NBA Finals, Houston Rockets vs. New York Knicks on DVD
Reliving the glory days of the Rockets, and in the comfort of ones own residence? It's quite a treat. It is all seven games of the series, so you can re-watch Hakeem Olajuwon’s block on John Starks in Game 6, and the Rockets celebrate in Game 7 on their home court. Sadly this series isn’t on Blu-ray yet. However, watching it on a HDTV won’t create a big issue for those determined to have it on a Blu-ray player.

Mr. Potato Head with a Rockets Jersey
It’s a Mr. Potato Head action figure … and he’s wearing a Rockets jersey! It sells itself.

Donating money to the people of Darfur
As it’s not paraphernalia related to the Houston Rockets, as mentioned in yesterday’s story, Tracy McGrady has done work to raise awareness about the ongoing conflict in Darfur. Therefore with the ability to give a donation in honor of a family member and/or friend, it’s a gift which the Rockets superstar would gladly give support towards.

There you have it. If you need some gift ideas for a Houston Rockets fan, you have a few ideas to work with.

Due to the positive feedback received from the diary of the Los Angeles Clippers game, another one will be written for the Phoenix Suns game Wednesday night. During the course of the game (every 10 minutes or so), a new entry will be made in the diary. So keep viewing the site, and offer any comments you’d like throughout the game. In addition, keeping sending any questions, comments, etc. you may have to rocketsexaminer@gmail.com.
