Drool

I have never tried to hide my lust for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro but, until yesterday, I had only seen the car in person at auto shows or in lucid dreams. Now, the cosmic cycle is complete as I had my first spotting of the new Camaro here in the DC area and it made everything else on the road with it look ancient and simpleton.

The new Camaro has presence in heaps and even turned the heads of some nearby Prius drivers who simply could not resist a guilty glance at this rolling kama sutra. The designers got the design spot on by merging elements of the 1970s Z-28 with modern design. I believe they even took a risk by not toning down the final design compared to the concept car thus, surprising everyone by rolling out a truly genuine muscle car.

The Camaro is not your typical muscle car however as it has multi-link, independent suspension on all four wheels, the choice of a thrifty V-6 engine and, get ready, paddle shifters. If it were down to me however, I would stick with the manual as paddle shifters seem more suited to the hot Japanese super-cars and not so much to American muscle. Still, it would be tempting to see how they work on this most modern of beasts.

My only gripe is that the rear mufflers are quite exposed thus giving the rear of the car a rather unfinished look but all the more reason to hunt down some after-market exhausts to truly flaunt the Camaro's behind. Also, opting for the regular lights kind of cheapens the overall look so best to go for the halogen bulbs with halo effect to keep the front end aggressive. And yes, you may be stuck with OnStar whether you like it or not but there are worse things in life.

Did you know the base model starts at $22,000? Yep, no joke so you get style and save a few pennies all in one go. Of course, it is the style that matters in this case although most agree the car drives better than its competitors (Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger). But let's face it, most people will buy for style and sex appeal, none of which are lacking in the Camaro.

After my in-the-flesh spotting, I managed to calm myself and was even able to continue my journey having felt a sense of deep fulfillment. Chevrolet has been teasing us for years with this car and the fact that it is now moving freely among us is just irresistibly titillating. Plus, this could very well be the car that turns the US car industry tide and gets people to once again, buy American.
