Having my own business, I’ve been forced to learn to become my own IT expert. Without a company to pay for Geek Squad, I’ve become a pro at removing computer viruses and fixing glitches. But no matter how many tools of the trade I know, its inevitable that over time my computers begin to slow down. And no one wants to spend the money – or hassle – of replacing a computer every couple of years.

Each year, more than five billion pounds of computer waste is generated. In 2007 alone more than 40 million computers were dumped, up from 20 million in 1998, according to the EPA. Much of this waste could be avoided if PCs remained fast, efficient, and stable for longer that the current 30-month average. By tuning up and keeping older personal computers running like new, iolo technologies’ System Mechanic helps extend their lives and reduce power consumption.

Many products online claim to clean, fix, and speed up computers, but System Mechanic stayed true to its claim. My two-year-old PC sped up tremendously after a clean-up, which is a huge relief considering how much I, like many Americans, rely on my computer.

With only 18 percent of the 2,300,000 tons of computer waste generated each year being recycled, System Mechanic can save countless computers from joining the 82 percent of discarded machines that end up in landfills.
