In addition to being my neighborhood’s one stop shop for all things green, Big Green Earth Store is the U.S. distributor for Eartha’s Handbags & Accessories. Based in the northern part of Sumatra Island in Indonesia, Eartha’s created an unprecedented income opportunity for a disadvantaged community.

The company collects used materials available in and around the village and recycles them into beautiful, practical products. Among the materials they use are bottle tops, cans, fashion magazines, sacks, dried leaves and flowers, and motorcycle tires. A home industry working concept was designed to allow village women work as subcontractors and create their own income without interrupting their traditional domestic duties.

The Recycled Innertube Bag and Recycled Newspaper Handbag are both made from 100% recycled or reclaimed materials and are available at Big Green Earth Store.
