It is unfortunately being reported that Farrah Fawcett, the woman whose image was pinned to the wall of every teenage boy in 1970's America, has passed away this morning. Fawcett died at about 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, her publicist Paul Bloch said today.
Fawcett is best known for her role on the television series "Charlie's Angels." For many, the enduring image of Fawcett wearing a red swimsuit and sharing her Colgate smile is an iconic image for an entire generation.
Here is an excerpt from the Los Angeles Times article:
"If you were to list 10 images that are evocative of American pop culture, Farrah Fawcett would be one of them," Robert Thompson, a professor of television and popular culture at Syracuse University, told The Times. "That poster became one of the defining images of the 1970s."
Yet Fawcett was part of a new generation of celebrities whose fame was fueled by heightened coverage of their ongoing personal dramas, Thompson said.
Here is a photo tribute of Farrah, as well.
