Sesame Street celebrates its 40th anniversary on November 10th, and the popular educational program will host First Lady Michelle Obama on its birthday. While on the show, Michelle will appear with Elmo and encourage children to incorporate healthy foods into their diet.

The iconic Google Doodle is honoring Sesame Street today by placing Big Bird on its homepage. Sesame Street, which began in 1969 on November 10th, is the longest running childrens program in U.S history.

Sesame Street isn’t just popular in the United States, however. Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar the Grouch and others are seen in over 120 countries, giving them their biggest audience to date.

Sesame Street was created by the late Jim Henson.

For those that can’t get enough of the furry Muppets, a special 40th anniversary DVD of Sesame Street will be available in stores in late November.

Below, watch some old clips of Sesame Street from 1970!
