The title "black Friday" always struck me as a bit strange. The connotation of the color black is overwhelmingly grim and morbid. Sadly, this year's black Friday truly lived up to it's name.
With thousands losing their jobs on a daily basis I think we all knew that Friday was going to be the shopping day of the holiday season; more so than prior years. I was even debating giving up my precious sleep to head to my local Wal-mart at 5 a.m. to save some cash on a GPS and maybe even a LCD TV. Then I thought about how I despise crowds of people and decided against waking up at such an ungodly hour. Lucky for me I did, my local Wal-mart is in Valley Stream.
What boggles my mind, and hopefully yours too, is how a group of GROWN ASS people can act like a bunch of animals to save a few hundred dollars. To break doors and trample someone to death for an object of luxury says volumes of what type of society we are, and we have always been I suppose. I'm sure there is hours of Cabbage Patch and Tickle Me Elmo footage of people punching each other out just to bring a smile to their child's face. Truly heart-warming....What would we do to each other in times of desperation? When we had to get things that we really need to survive like food or water, not a '42 inch television.
I guess it really came in handy when you got to watch the news report of an unnecessary death in crystal clear, sharp, digital imaging.
