Sixty-four Democrats sided with Republicans minutes ago to support a pro-life amendment to the health care reform bill, HR 3962.
The tally was 240-194 with all but one Republican voting in favor and 194 Democrats voting no. Rep. John Shadegg of Arizona voted "present."
The Stupak-Pitts Amendment would prevent federal taxpayer dollars from being used to fund abortions in any health care insurance plan supported by the U.S.
Rep. Tom Perriello was the only Virginia Democrat to support the amendment.
The House then rejected a Republican health care proposal offered by Republican Majority Leader John Boehner of Ohio, 176-258, on a largely party-line vote. One Republican voted against the measure. One Democrat didn't vote.
