Read it and weep, socially liberal editorial boards. The candidate you love to hate, our next Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, won with 58 percent of the vote Tuesday.
This came despite the fact that three large newspapers endorsed his opponent, Democrat Steve Shannon.
The Washington Post accused Cuccinelli of being a bigot and espousing bizarre ideas because of his support for natural law and traditional marriage. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/29/AR2009102904197.html
The Daily Press said Cuccinelli's "positions do not represent the values of most Virginians." Apparently the editorial board at the Daily Press doesn't realize that Virginia is the "buckle on the Bible Belt," to quote their columnist Tamara Dietrich. Does the Daily Press actually think that the majority of Virginians are pro-abortion, pro-illegal immigration, pro-gay marriage and anti-gun? http://www.dailypress.com/news/opinion/dp-ed_ltgovag_edit_1028oct28,0,3984194.story
Meanwhile, the Virginian-Pilot said Cuccinelli's election "would be an embarrassment to Virginia." http://hamptonroads.com.nyud.net/2009/10/steve-shannon-attorney-general
Apparently the voters of Virginia have rejected the cultural liberalism and cultural elitism of these newspapers' editorial boards.
