American Idol's Carly Smithson is joining the original guys of Evanescence, in a new band called "We Are The Fallen". The formal announcement was made this morning in Los Angeles, with a live performance and press conference.
The line up consists of Smithson, bassist Marty O'Brien, and three of the original members of Evanescence, guitarists Ben Moody, Jon LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray.
When asked about the band line up and how they formed, they offered that this is the second chapter of an existing band. They wanted to do right and that Smithson's charisma matched the band's and it felt right. Moody stated that all of the band are songwriters and will be writing all the music for this project. Smithson talked about the official invitation to join the band and offers, "As an artist I have never been happier. Creatively, musically, visually, and on a comedic level we are united and together on the same page. We are a family". Drummer Rocky Gray added, "I'm very blessed to be able to be playing with my friends and think that this band has the potential to be bigger than anything we've done before!"
Their first song "Bury Me Alive" is available to the public as a free download at www.wearethefallen.com. The first one hundred thousand registrants over the first 48 hours will receive the song. We Are The Fallen will continue to release new recordings digitally in the upcoming months and will be touring in September.
