Lots of families are planning for their summer vacations right about now (snow is quite a motivator to start thinking about sunny weather). Of course, we are all trying to save money, so vacations that are a little bit closer to home have a lot of appeal. I'm not talking about "staycations" that are in your backyard. That's too close to home. But how about a "haycation"?
"Haycations" are the newest silly word to describe some variation on vacation. They are actually called "farm stays", a trip to a farm or ranch, where you get to stay and experience a little of the agricultural life. They range from a bed and breakfast on a berry farm to a full-on milk-the-cows kind of place. They can be a great experience for families, incorporating together time with things like horse back riding and fishing. Plus, because there are options in our own area, you don't have to buy a plane ticket to get there.
Here are three options in Washington State, which I found on Agrisports.com:

K Diamond K Guest Ranch
Enjoy ranch life on a real "dude ranch" located north of Spokane, WA. Go horseback riding, check out the wild turkeys and white tail deer, go hiking, biking or fishing. If you catch a fish, bring it back and they will cook it up for dinner for you!
Canaan Ranch Bed and Barn Get-Away
Located in the Tonasket area of Northeastern Washington State, this "Bed and Barn" offers lots of wintery fun, like cross country skiing, snowmobiling, tubing, and snowshowing. During the warmer months, ride horse, go swimming, or hunting and fishing. Definitely a family vacation to remember!

Blueberry Hill Farm Guesthouse
If you would like a little less "dude" in your ranch experience, try this bed and breakfast with a slightly less rugged feel. Blueberry Hill Farm is located on a berry farm full of bees, ladybugs, and other "happy insects." The berries make up the fresh breakfast made each day, and are part of berry picking as a family.
