Ready for a story so incredibly cute it could quite possibly put you into sugar shock? Two young Germans tried to elope to Africa on New Year's Eve, according to BBC News. Why so sweet, you ask? Because the young bride-to-be and groom-to-be are only 6 and 7! The sweethearts were able to get as far as their local train station before being picked up by police and having their parents called.

According to police spokesman Holger Jurezcko, Mike and Anna-Lena are "very much in love" and had hoped to get married in Africa because of the warm climate. The seed for the idea was planted after Mika began telling his true love, Anna-Lena, about a recent trip to Italy during a New Year's Eve gathering where both children's families were celebrating. The children decided eloping was a great idea and packed their bags. So what do two young children pack when planning to marry in Africa? Swimsuits, water wings, and sunglasses. Oh, and they didn't forget the witness, either! They asked Anna-Lena's seven-year-old sister to join them.

In the early morning hours, the little trio walked nearly a mile to a local tram station at Langenhagen and hopped onto a tram for Hanover central station. Once at the station, people began to notice the young children and the police were called. Quickly fessing up to their romantic plans, the children were easily convinced that they wouldn't get far without money or passports, somewhat of a necessity when traveling, especially abroad. The lovebirds were sad but received an 'engagement' present of sorts from the police, who gave them a tour of the police station while they waited for the parents of the children to arrive.

It is uncertain whether Mika and Anna-Lena will wed in Africa now. Any current matrimonial plans are most likely on hold indefinitely - and I'm betting future playdates will be chaperoned!
