Malia dolls from Ty
Ty toy company has a line of dolls named after famous women and girls, and they just added two more: Sasha and Malia. The dolls do not look like the girls beyond the fact they are African American, but Ty admits they were created with the young Obama's in mind for their TyGirlz line of dolls. Other dolls in the line include Britney, Paris, Hillary, Jenna, and Lindsay. The new dolls are named "Marvelous Malia" and "Sweet Sasha".
Sasha and Malia's mom, Michelle Obama, doesn't appreciate the new dolls. A spokeswoman for Michelle Obama told Crain's chicagobusiness.com, "We believe it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes."
A spokeswoman for Ty toys claims they "were not designed to look like any living person. Somehow there was a misunderstanding."
