Reindeer food: oats and edible sprinkles

It's common knowledge that Santa Claus enjoys snacking on cookies and milk as goes from house to house dropping off presents. He needs to refuel at each stop in order to make it around the world, delivering toys to all the good little girls and boys. That's all well and good, but what about his reindeer? If you think about it, they are the ones truly in need of a snack. They have to fly all over, dragging that heavy sleigh filled with gifts, some helpful elves, and Santa. Does anyone think of leaving them a snack?

This year, get on Santa's nice list by treating his reindeer to a little bit of reindeer food! This easy, do-it-yourself snack is fun for kids to make and a cute tradition to start. Reindeer food consists of oatmeal and glitter or edible sprinkles mixed together. On Christmas Eve, take your little one outside and let him toss it around the lawn. Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, and Rudolph will appreciate having something to munch on while they're parked outside and waiting for Santa to finish up his important tasks inside.

What you need:
Oatmeal (instant or classic)
Glitter
Edible sprinkles
Plastic baggie

Step one:
Pour 1/3 cup of oatmeal into the baggie

Step two:
Shake in as much glitter and/or sprinkles as you wish

Step three:
Shake the baggie and mix up the oats and sprinkles. Add more glitter or sprinkles if you feel like it.

Step four:
Throw it on your lawn. Be sure to cover a large area - there are nine reindeer, after all!

See? Easy! If the reindeer food is densely spread, it's probably a good idea to mix it around the lawn after the little ones are in bed. It will be fun the next morning to show them the mess the reindeer made eating their food!
