The world is mourning the loss of an Angel today. Farrah Fawcett died this morning at age 62 from anal cancer. While she is known for her role in 'Charlie's Angels,' and 'The Burning Bed,' perhaps her greatest role is that of mother to her son, Redmond O'Neal, with actor Ryan O'Neal. To make this family tragedy even sadder, Redmond was unable to see his mother before her final moments.
Redmond, 24, is an inmate at Pitchness Detention Center, which is an in-treatment rehab center. He was court-ordered there as part of a plea deal stemming from drug charges. He last saw Farrah in late April as he was granted a temporary removal order by a judge to see his dying mother. The reunion was caught on film in the documentary that aired several weeks ago called 'A Wing and a Prayer: Farrah's Story,' which highlighted her fight to live. Redmond was seen, shackled, crawling into Farrah's bed and crying. It was a heartbreaking moment.
Redmond was arrested earlier this year after attempting to bring drugs into jail during a visit to a friend who was an inmate there. This came not long after he was busted last October for felony drug possession with his father. It is unclear how much Farrah knew about her son's legal troubles since her health has been in rapid decline for months. Redmond clearly loved his mother and stated that he was angry he got into trouble while she was dying. It was obvious in 'Farrah's Story' that the two had a strong bond.
Redmond will be allowed to attend his mother's funeral.
