It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that someone has figured out a way to make the Twilight vampire saga into an educational experience. It makes total sense to find something teens are devoted to and turn it into a way to learn. So Brian Leaf put together a new book, Defining Twilight, a vocabulary workbook to help students prepare for the college entrance exams.
The book is not yet out- the release date is July 27th- but in advance of the big day, his publisher is sponsoring an essay contest. Using 8 vocabulary words found in the Twilight books, students write an essay on any topic they want. It can be about the Twilight story, new Twilight fan fiction, even about something completely unrelated to Twilight. The winner will get $500 and a copy of the new book. Four Second-Prize winners will get $50 and a copy of the book.
Here is the part that actually caught me by surprise: it isn't just open to teens! There are three age groups- 13 through 15, 16 through 18, and 19 and older. That means this contest is open to teens AND their Twilight Moms!
Entries must be recieved by July 31 and winners will be announced on September 30. If you are interested, here are the 8 vocabulary words that must be in each essay :
Noble
Sauntered
Inconsequential
Omnipresent
Exiled
Detested
Erratic
Permanence
