Sears has launched a new website for web savvy moms that is not very upbeat, despite it's attempt to lift the spirits of moms everywhere. It's called 'Busted Moms,' which is meant to be about whether or not the economy has busted you, but also makes it sound like a website of pictures of ugly moms.  Sears is attempting to woo the ladies by having a $2,500 makeover contest. Sounds great, right? Except to enter, you need to share your reasons as to why you need it and there is apparently no shortage of sadness in the country these days.

Here is a quick sampling of what some moms across the US are dealing with and why they want to win this makeover:

  • "Our house has been broken into, as in door kicked in and hanging of the hinges, 3 times in the past 6 months. I don't consider our neighborhood to be bad but someone seems to think they need our things more than we do. As a result of the break-ins my son has had many of his belongings stolen."

  • "A few months ago I was diagnosed with Stage 3 of Chronic Kidney Disease (I'm 35 years old). Having three young ones to take care of amplifies my fears of passing before my time. Financially we are already strapped more than  we've ever been before and adding that extra burden (medical; no insurance) makes it all the more upsetting."

  • "A mother of three, I am on the go constantly - picking up kids, the husband, or providing support to new moms struggling with Postpartum Mood Disorders . I have next to no time for myself and money is very tight. I don't have any casual clothes to wear out save one pair of jeans and maybe a top or two that hasn't been stained yet. I need HELP."

  • "We have been struggling pretty hard lately, because I lost my hours at work due to the economic decline and my husband was hurt. He missed a month of work and although he is back to work under restrictions, his income has been cut in half. I had to take a second job just to try to make ends meet.Matter of fact, we just pawned some of our items just to make a truck payment. needless to say, there is no money to get anything but the bare necessities."

Take heart, though. Not everyone had something sad to share, and there are many posts from moms who are happy but feel frumpy and just want a makeover. I commend Sears for offering this makeover as well as a forum for moms to share their troubles and triumphs. After reading through nearly all of the posts, I hope that Sears finds a way to allow multiple winners for the contest. It sounds like there are a lot of women out there who need something to smile about in this economy.

If you're interested in entering, head over to BustedMoms.com. You need to become a fan, which you can do through Facebook (linked to it on the website).
