Why go to the mall when you can just sit at your computer?

As we all know, as soon as our Thanksgiving dinner is packaged into leftovers Santa Claus will begin his annual meet and greet with children in local malls. This year, however, parents may have concerns about bringing their children into malls packed with people during the flu season, especially with the hysteria over the swine flu. If you're looking for an alternative to seeing Santa in person but still want that face time, check out Santa Skype!

This new service will bring Santa Claus directly to you via a webcam and Skype, a personal video call that takes place over the internet. For just $14.95, you can reserve ten minutes of Santa's time and your kiddo can chat with him and tell St. Nick her heart's desire. The website tells you what the requirements are (essentially a Skype account and a working computer with a webcam). You can check Santa's Schedule and reserve a specific time for the chat from the openings remaining (Sundays are out; Santa needs his personal time, checks his Naughty and Nice list, and apparently goes on a date with Mrs. Claus).  Just keep in mind that the site is new, which is hopefully why their "About Us" page just says "We are amazing! We are amazing!" and why the "Holiday Tips" page lists absolutely no tips.

Now you might be wondering, "Why would I spend $14.95 to have a video chat with Santa when we can see him for free (minus the photos) at the mall?" Good question, but consider this: Plenty of children are terrified of meeting Santa Claus and a video chat would actually be a great way to introduce your little one to Santa. There's no sitting on a strange man's lap, no awkward elves dancing around trying to get your child to smile, and it gives your child the opportunity to experience Santa from the safety and comfort of her own home.

It's different, it's funny, and it's actually a good idea!
