Okay, I admit I'm hooked. I really really like my Kindle. My wife got me the original Kindle model last year for my birthday. Once I got used to its feel and features, I was off and reading. Not only is the Kindle a superb electronic book reader; thanks it its free wireless connection it's a very convenient devise for many other types of content including newspapers, blogs, magazines as well as Wikipedia. When I receive my Kindle last July, the total number of books available through its wireless connection was around 175,000. Today, one year later, there are over 300,000 titles available.
The Kindle Storefront, which is easy to find on the devise, not only includes links to books, newspapers, magazines and blogs; it also has links to New York Times Best Sellers, Kindle Top Sellers, News & Noteworthy Books and a Kindle Daily Post. At the bottom of the Kindle Storefront page is Amazon's Recommended Books for You which is personalized according to your prior purchases.
Kindle's Top 3 Most Popular:
Newspapers (41 titles):
3. USA Today
Magazines (32 titles):
2. Newsweek
3. Time
Blogs (5,986 titles):
1. Stampede Blue (for Colts fans. who knew?)
2. Buzzsugar (Entertainment Hourly)
3. Amazon Daily
Additional Blogs include Latest News from the New York Times, ESPN, as well as progressive blogs like the Daily Koz and conservative blogs like Michelle Malkin.
Typically a New York Times best seller is just $9.99 and I have found older books for a low as $.99. New York Times is $13.99 per month or $.75 for a single issue. Blogs like The Huffington Post are $1.99 per month while weekly magazines like Time is $1.49 per month or $.49 per issue.
While a new Kindle can be pricey ($359 plus free shipping), my year old Kindle has more than paid for itself. In addition to saving money and the environment, the Kindle is great for travel since you don't need to pack a ton of reading material.
While most books work just fine on the Kindle, some non fiction technical books are better in the old fashion format. Also, while great for traveling, one of Kindle's drawbacks is that the wireless shopping and delivery feature does not work outside of the USA so if you are planning to use the Kindle in Europe, or on a cruise, you should plan on downloading what you intend to read before leaving the country.
Oh, by the way, I got my wife a newer Kindle 2 model for her birthday. It's even better than mine.
