"When it comes to friendship, we're all co-dependent."  -Logan Smalley, director, Darius Goes West.

Labor Day + Jerry Lewis = MDA Telethon, right?
If you're agreeing, you've likely watched in years past to see which celebrities would sing, dance, or tell jokes in the televised marathon fundraiser to cure muscular dystrophy.

If you've been inspired by the information presented -- between the entertainment segments -- about research and made a call to your local station to give a donation, thank you.

But, if you or someone you know is under 25, you/they may not have a clue about this fatal disease or the resources needed to continue the fight.

Be The Vehicle = DGW + You
A few months back I wrote about Darius Goes West, an award-winning, bitter-sweet and inspirational film about 15-year old Darius Weems, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The film, thanks to UGA special education major/ director/ friend Logan Smalley, chronicles a cross-country trip from Athens, GA to Los Angeles, CA -- punctuated by accessability challenges (like the arch in St. Louis, MO) and triumphs (like whitewater rafting) -- for young Darius and his friends.

Smalley, who has gone on to earn his Masters in Education from Harvard, and Darius, who recently graduated from high school, have a common goal: a desire to raise awareness among young people who may have never seen or heard of Jerry Lewis and his annual Labor Day telethon.
