4th of July celebrations begin Friday in North Georgia's Blue Ridge communities

Fourth of July celebrations abound in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia this weekend. Here are just a few of the big happenings in some small towns just north of Atlanta.   

Blue Ridge, GA   Rockin in the Park   Friday   
Historic District across from the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad Depot.  Three rockin' bands play from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in downtown Blue Ridge to celebrate the Fourth of July.  Featured bands are Breaking Point, Surrender and Raven.  The downtown merchants will be staying open until 9:00 p.m. Come down at 5:30 to the City Park for a plate of spaghetti for only $5.99 for adults and children are 1/2 price.  All proceeds benefit Light Up Blue Ridge, held each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. 

Union County, Blairsville, GA    Independence Day Fireworks Celebration    Friday   
This year's fireworks display will be held on Friday evening, July 3rd at Meeks Park at approximately 9:30pm weather permitting.   Fireworks are sponsored by the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce and United Community Bank, Blue Ridge Mountain EMC, Appalachian Community Bank, and Nantahala Bank & Trust. 

Sky Valley, Clayton, GA   Annual 4th of July Celebration Weekend    Friday  
The Town of Sky Valley begins 4th of July festivities on Friday, July 3rd at POA Park with a benifit BBQ Dinner. Proceeds benefit the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund. Tickets can be purchased in advance at City Hall, the Lodge or the Timeshare Office. BYOB, chairs, blankets etc.
On Saturday, July 4th will begin festivities with a Rubber Duck race at 10:30, a parade at 11:30 followed by a cookout at POA Park with games, fire truck rides and more fun. Fireworks will follow at dusk.  

Lake Burton, Sky Valley, GA    Benefit BBQ Dinner, Rubber Duck Race    Friday and Saturday   
The Town of Sky Valley begins 4th of July festivities on Friday, July 3rd at POA Park with a benefit BBQ Dinner.  Proceeds benefit the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund. Friday, July 3,4,5, 2009  10:00 PM - 05:00 PM  July 4th Mountain Style  @ Unicoi State Park   Saturday, July 4, 2009  04:00 PM - 09:00 PM   4th of July BBQ and Bluegrass Music from 4PM - 8:30PM. Food served from 4PM - 9PM. Pulled Pork BBQ, hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, chips, soft drinks, imported & domestic beer & wine. Entertainment provided by Jason Kenney & the Ramily Honor. Fussen Biergarten, Festhalle     7:00 PM - 09:00 PM  Annual Fireworks  @ dusk
