ALMS (American Le Mans Series) announced the schedule for 2010 and Laguna Seca will host a six-hour race next May. Moving from its current October date to May along with the elimination of the St. Petersburg event will allow for Monterey to host the third endurance race for the 2010 series. Currently Laguna Seca’s race lasts for four hours and ALMS wanted to extend the race for a “true” endurance race that will test the mettle of drivers and teams next to the 12 hours of Sebring and Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta. This change makes sense as it will be the last race before the 24 hour race takes place in France in June.
As with all professional automotive racing teams the economic downturn has taken a heavy toll and having one less race to contend with might not be such a bad idea. St Petersburg was eliminated for 2010 due to a scheduling and logistical conflict with the Indy Car series and is tentatively scheduled to be back on the racing schedule in 2011.
