-The recent success of former UK forward Kelenna Azubuike was finally realized in his outpouring against the lowly Timberwolves in Monday night’s game. Azubuike led all players with 31 points as the Warriors beat the Wolves 146-105. Golden State had eight players in double-figures. Azubuike was recently put into the starting lineup in place of veteran Corey Magette and the move has worked out perfectly for head coach Don Nelson. There’s no reason to think Azubuike will suddenly be taken out of the starting lineup, great news for a former Wildcat.
-Thought this to be an interesting read by ESPN.com writer Chris Low who covers an array of topics regarding SEC football. One thing everyone knows is the versatility UK wide receiver Randall Cobb brings to the field every game. The sophomore super-star of the Wildcats has done it all for the program most namely in the form of scoring touchdowns. He plays several positions and so much is asked of him throughout a game, that Low has given Cobb the honor of “Mr. Versatility” in the SEC conference.
This distinction shouldn’t really surprise anyone as he has scored 10 touchdowns on the season with nine of those coming in the running/receiving game. The other was on a punt return for a touchdown. Low’s point exactly in that Cobb is expected to do everything for the Wildcats and he does all of them very well. Cobb needs to stay healthy for the rest of the season and especially in their next against Vanderbilt.
-Good news from UK head coach John Calipari about Perry Stevenson positioning himself as the backup to Patrick Patterson. Much was made of the fact that Stevenson was kindly left out of the discussion when it came to the 2009-2010 UK men’s basketball team. One of three seniors on the team, Stevenson finds himself in a leadership role with the Cats and his stellar play in practice and two exhibition games has his confidence on the rise. Stevenson is as excited as ever saying,
“It definitely sounds good. I might be able to get up more 3s now. I felt like I had another chance to prove I want to be in there and help the team win.”
With Stevenson’s experience and added muscle this season, look for him to getting more playing time than many had expected before the season started.
