How to decline a date

As the weather gets warmer, people are starting to come out of their winter cocoons. This means that more people are going to be out and about and it’s become the unofficial mating season. Spring (and pollen) is in the air and that typically makes single people feel a bit more amorous. This is great for us single folks that need to jump back into the dating pool and were using the cold weather as a way to stay out of the dating waters. However with people feeling more amorous, there are also going to be people that may want to date you that you don’t necessarily want to date. There is a proper way to turn down a date. Here are some tips:
- Be polite: Don’t be rude even if you don’t think the person has the right to ask you out. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
- Be firm: Don’t be wishy washy. Don’t make them feel like they have a chance if they don’t.
- Be direct: Don’t beat around the bush. Get to the point.
- Be consistent: If you’re truly not interested in someone then say no and stick with it.
Overall declining a date is just as big a part of the whole dating process as actually accepting a date and starting a relationship.
