The Macon Telegraph is reporting that Warner Robins Mayor Donald Walker died shortly before 2 p.m. today from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mayor Walker, 60, was running for his fourth term this November.

Walker was pronounced dead at 1:49 p.m at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Police say they responded to a call at the Walker house this morning after receiving a report of a gunshot. Mayor Walker’s wife Patricia was home at the time of the shooting, but no more information is known at this time.

The Mayor was in the middle of an intense political battle against three opponents. He was first elected in 1994 during a special election.
