I wrote about in my last article on healthcare how there was a lot of misinformation out right now about the reform, such as that Obama approves of death panels, that illegal immigrants will receive health insurance if the bill passes, and that most aren’t in favor of the public option. But it’s becoming apparent with all the imagery we’re getting from the 9/12 protests in D.C. on Saturday, endorsed by Glenn Beck, that the right is an important voice in the United States and deserves to be heard, but unfortunately the wrong people are speaking the loudest right now.
This video pretty much speaks for itself:
It’s important to note that the St. Petersburg Times’ Pulitzer Prize-winning site Politifact found that a picture being circulated of what many claim to be a picture of the rally with crowds all the way back to the Washington Monument was really a photo from the 1997 Promise Keepers rally. You can read their explanation for why the photo is definitely from 1997 here.
Michelle Malkin also tweeted that police had estimated crowds to be between one to two million for the 9/12 protest (more than the 1.8 who attended Obama’s inauguration), but a D.C. Fire and Emergency Department official says the crowds only reached Third Street (the Washington Monument is nestled between 15th and 17th) and crowds were likely around 60,000 to 75,000. That’s an unofficial estimate from the D.C. Fire Department, but the most legitimate estimate out there and it’s still an impressive number, but 925,000 short of a million.
MeetTheCrazies on Flickr has posted 80+ photos that they took at the rally featuring the best signs. My favorites include:
And finally, here is a man braver than I walking through the protest (with a police escort, thankfully) with a sign reading “Public Option Now.”
