T.R. Knight is leaving his home on 'Grey's Anatomy' to reclaim his first true love- the Broadway stage.
EW.com's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Knight has just signed on to star in the Broadway revival of Lend Me A Tenor. Knight will play the role of Max in this new adaptation of the classic comedy, which is being directed by acclaimed actor Stanley Tucci. The curtain is set to rise in February 2010. Additional casting announcements will be made in the coming weeks. Knight has previously appeared on Braodway in a 2003 revival of Tartuffe and in a 2001 production of Noises Off.
But if you live on the West Coast and want to see Knight live on stage, you're in luck, too. Before hitting the Great White Way, Knight will be headling an Los Angeles based production of Jason Robert Brown's Tony-winning play Parade at the Mark Taper Forum.
Both of these roles will allow Knight a chance to break away from his signature role as 'Grey's Anatomy's' George O'Malley. In the comedic Tenor he will play an opera manager's assistant who is forced to impersonate an ill star. In the dark musical Parade, he will play the role of Leo Frank, a Jewish factory manager who was accused of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl. The musical, which is based on actual events, revolves around Frank's trial and eventual lynching.
What do you think of this news, Knight fans? Since you're not going to be seeing him on 'Grey's' anymore, are you happy he's returning to his roots as a stage actor? Anyone planning to make the trek to New York or L.A. to check out either of these productions? Let us know in the comments section.
