TVGuide.com is giving readers a chance to vote on which prime time televison show jumped the shark this season, and 'Grey's Anatomy' is a leading contender.
In a story that hit the net on June 3, TVGuide.com asked readers to let them know which shows struggled the most this year with "bad storytelling, shoddy acting, or stunts on a Fonzie-jumps-the-shark scale." Once the TVGuide.com staff had a chance to sift through the 134 comments left on the article, 'Grey's Anatomy', 'Bones', 'House', and 'Heroes' were selected as finalists. Readers can now vote in a poll to determine which show most jumped the shark.
The inclusion of 'Grey's' in this contest is most likely due to the now infamous "ghost sex" storyline, in which Izzie, who did not yet realize she was suffering from a brain tumor, hallucinated that she was bedding her deceased former love, Denny Duquette. Fans were frustrated by the continued presence of "Dead Denny" through several episodes, before Izzie finally began to realize something must be wrong. Another storyline that repulsed fans this season was a subplot about Seattle Grace's new class of interns practicing surgical techniques on themselves. Many fans and critics felt the season vastly improved once Izzie received her cancer diagnosis, but the reaction of the TVGuide.com readers show that for some fans, it may have been too little, too late. "We feel especially bad for the seemingly broken 'Grey's' and 'Bones," writes TVGuide.com's Tim Molloy, "which had several critics in our reader comments but not... one... single... defender." Grey's is currently ranked second behind 'House' as being the biggest shark jumper of the season.
