TV critic Ed Martin of The Huffington Post has some fearless Emmy advice for the awards show's voters, and his words of wisdom include giving nominations to several 'Grey's Anatomy' stars.
Martin singles out Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Kevin McKidd and Justin Chambers as all being worthy of Emmy recognition for their work in the medical drama's fifth season. He predicts Heigl, Oh, and Wilson will all receive nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category, but confesses he has no clue how the race will play out in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category (in which both Chambers and McKidd have submitted their names), or even if any of the ten actors he singled out will end up with a nomination.
Perennial nominees Heigl, Oh, and Wilson are expected by many critics to repeat this year, but this endorsement is a nice boost for underdogs Chambers and McKidd. In our own Grey's Anatomy Examiner poll, which asked which supporting Grey's actor you'd like to see nominated, Oh came in first with 24% of the vote, followed by Heigl and Chambers who tied for second place with 20% each. Wilson and McKidd tied for fourth place with 11% each. The third-place finisher, Patrick Dempsey, has yet to receive a major critical endorsement.
We'll see if Martin's advice has any weight with Emmy voters on July 16, when the nominations will be announced.
