Ew.com's Michael Ausiello has revealed his Best Supporting Actor/Actress picks for his annual 'Dream Emmy Ballot', and
Katherine Heigl is the only 'Grey's star to make the cut.
"Think my job is easy?" Ausiello asks his readers. "You try narrowing down the potential nominees for the best supporting actress in a drama to just six finalists."
Ausiello couldn't do it, either. He broke the rules by allowing seven finalists onto his ballot. (The real Emmys have a six nominee limit per ballot.) Joining Heigl on the list are Connie Britton of NBC's 'Friday Night Lights', Ginnifer Goodwin and Chloe Sevigny of HBO's 'Big Love', Christina Hendricks of AMC's 'Mad Men', Alison Pill of HBO's 'In Treatment' and CCH Pounder of FX's 'The Shield'.
As a journalist, Ausiello is not a member of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and therefore does not have an actual vote for the Emmys. The 'Dream Ballot' is just a chance for Ausiello to express his opinion as a professional TV enthusiast. An endorsement from Ausiello is by no means a guarantee of an actual nomination, but it does give fans an idea of who the top contenders may be. Heigl has spent the day battling rumors that she was dropped from a film due to unreasonable salary expectations. Hopefully this little piece of good news will help cheer her up.
But there's no good news for her co-stars Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, T.R. Knight, Justin Chambers, Sara Ramirez, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Eric Dane, Chyler Leigh and Kevin McKidd, who all got snubbed by Ausiello. Ellen Pompeo is the only 'Grey's' star competing in the lead acting categories this year, and still has a shot of making Ausiello's yet-to-revealed Best Actress list.
Many of you weighed in yesterday with your thoughts on Patrick Dempsey's decision to submit himself in the supporting actor category this year, and voiced your opinions on which 'Grey's' cast member deserved a nomination. Justin Chambers received a lot of vocal support yesterday, but does his exclusion from Ausiello's list change your opinion on his Emmy-worthiness? Do you agree Heigl deserves a chance at a second Emmy, or have you had enough of both her and Izzie? Be sure to make your voice heard in the poll below, and as always, feel free to continue the discussion in the comments section.
