Marlee is telling everyone to "lighten up."

Marlee Matlin apparently just wants everyone to calm down. Not only was she not offended by "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane's mockery of her voice on his "Almost Live Comedy Show," but she actually was the one to make the first call. Why? The deaf actress told Entertainment Weekly that if anyone was going to make fun of the way she talked, it should be herself:

"I had been in touch with Seth MacFarlane’s office to ask him to let me use my own voice in the segments where they had a cartoon character based on me. After all, I have an Oscar and Alex [Borstein], who voiced me, doesn’t. God knows, I would have done a far better job of playing me than her."

Matlin later added that she didn't find the controversial sketch airing Sunday night offensive because she was in on the joke. In fact, she said that if she was so sensitive about her hearing problem then she wouldn't have taken on many roles in the past--including a memorable guest stint on "Seinfeld."

In the end, it looks like Matlin is attempting to use the "Family Guy" special as a way to plug a new show she is developing for Showtime, one that she herself describes as "politically incorrect." In addition to appearing in many films, she also recently appeared on "Dancing With the Stars."
