Danny Gokey has been lost in the shuffle at times when talking about this past season's crop of "American Idol" alumni. After all, he didn't win like Kris Allen and he hasn't generated the buzz of Adam Lambert. Instead Gokey quietly went to Nashville, decided to release a country album, and signed with RCA Records. On Friday, the world had an opportunity to hear the fruit of his labor.
Gokey's first song (entitled "It's Only") is quite a bit different than what we've heard from past "Idol" contestants so far this fall: it's deeply personal, has a clear message, and actually feels less like an overly-produced track designed for airplay.
However, those of us excited to hear Gokey's full debut album will have to wait a while; unlike Allen, Lambert, and fourth-place finisher Allison Iraheta, Gokey's album will not hit stores until March of next year.
Check out the full song below. Are you excited or disappointed? Let me know your thoughts with a comment below and check back soon for all things "American Idol."
