"American Idol" winner Kris allen has received some rave reviews for his debut single, "Live Like We're Dying;" however, it's now getting to be time to see how the single will fare with the critics who really matter: the American public.
The single, which is a cover of the song of the same name by The Script, has been on the radio for nearly a month now and has started to slowly build up airplay. The main problem Allen faces, though, is history: most of the male "Idol" winners have fizzled out over the years, while some of the females (Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks) have all found plenty of success after the popular reality show.
What could ultimately lead Kris Allen to do better than David Cook or Taylor Hicks is simply that "Live Like We're Dying" has that "catchy" factor: it's upbeat, inspiring, and it makes people want to listen multiple times in a row. (It also makes you wonder why The Script never decided to release the song on their own.)
For most "American Idol" winners, the true test of success is how well their debut single performs with downloads. "Live Like We're Dying" should have no problem in terms of digital sales, but it will have to gain traction on the air to become a surefire hit.
Do you think Kris Allen has the potential to become a superstar like some past "Idol" winners? Let me know your thoughts with a comment below!
