Here are some Maine children's book authors and illustrators you may not have found yet:
Melissa Sweet; her book Tupelo Rides the Rails is great and Carmine: A Little More Red (which is an entirely new-feeling book with a alphabet-driven story) is even more fabulous. They work for kids and are clever and interesting enough to keep an adult entertained as well.
Laura Rankin: Ruthie and the (Not so) Teeny-Tiny Lie, which conveys Ruthie's every emotion as she lies to keep something that is not hers and then has to find a way to make it right, and The Handmade Alphabet, which gorgeously shows the finger-spelled (sign language) alphabet.
