Yesterday I promised you some help finding great children's books set in Maine or by Maine authors. Here you go:
Maine Reads (that fabulous program that promotes literacy in Maine kids, including giving books to kindergartners) has a neat list of books for kids and another great list of children's book authors and illustrators who are Mainers- Maine children's book list from an amazon.com customer lists the big names
- Linda Orlando's article here (scroll down for the text) discusses famous children's authors who wrote books set in Maine or lived in Maine
- Lynn Plourde (who deserves her own shout-out for her own great children's books) and Paul Knowles wrote a book called "A Celebration of Maine Children's Books" which has fairly comprehensive coverage through 1998. It can be hard to find, but you can check through Minerva to see if it's available at your local library or can be requested from another Maine library. I got my copy used from Brickyard Books in North Yarmouth. It also looks like the Maine Historical Society may have some copies for sale.
