Most people on the gluten-free diet know they can have eggs, some (but not all) breakfast meats and potatoes when dining out for brunch. However, brunch specialties tend to include French toast, quiche and Eggs Benedict - all of which are off limits as they contain gluten. Many places in Atlanta will give you fruit instead of the fluffy muffins everyone else is enjoying, but most people would rather have a muffin.

It took a while, but finally the Atlanta Gluten-Free Dinner Club found a place to make a brunch worth getting up for. The Shed at Glenwood created an amazing brunch event for the group recently. The menu included gourmet soups and salads, entrees and desserts. Needless to say the entrees were the main event. The stand out menu options were the gluten-free blueberry pancakes and the spinach, bacon and goat cheese quiche with a gluten-free crust!

The pancakes were made with a popular gluten-free pancake mix and were the best tasting pancakes some in the group had tasted, even though they use the same mix at home. It's likely that the fact that someone else made the pancakes made them taste better than ever. Served with the Maine blueberry pancakes was real maple syrup and the extra treat of candied Georgia pecans. Almost every high end restaurant in the ATL uses wheat flour to make candied nuts so they're usually off limits.

Quiche is something many people living gluten-free miss, both at home and when dining out. The quiche served at The Shed at Glenwood was disturbingly delicious, so much so, that it was hard to believe the crust could possibly be gluten-free. The Chef actually brought out the Gluten-Free Pantry pie crust mix box to reassure the group that the quiche was 100% gluten-free. The mix yields a sweet or savory crust, omitting addtional sugar for the latter version.

Without question the quiche served to the dinner club was some of the best in Atlanta, including gluten versions. Maybe The Shed at Glenwood will consider having a gluten-free brunch day once a month like Shaun's Restaurant does with their gluten-free dinner program. By working together, people really can make a difference in the gluten-free choices in their respective locations. The Shed at Glenwood is a very gluten-free friendly restaurant any day of the week. Please note your need for gluten-free options when making reservations.
