With an image of Dracula’s castle and the “Dracula’s Blood” lettering dripping in red on the front label, this bottle will catch your eye. However, the wine more or less comes by its name honestly, being produced by the Tohani Winery in the Dealu Mare region, south of the Carpathian Alps in Romania. This wine really is from Transylvania.
Sporting good color with a rich, dark fruited nose, the wine spins out flavors of dark cherry and plum with a lift from red raspberry fruit. It also possesses good tannins and grip in the mouth as well as a nice slathering of vanilla from time in oak. Perhaps not quite as polished as the Vampire Cabernet, a bit rustic and brusque but still satisfying for the modest price.
