Phone
It's easy to forget that the Droid is also a phone. Apparently, Motorola might have skipped this fact when they didn't put a dedicated phone button on the bottom. It's not that big of a deal; the phone application is on the main screen and once you touch it, you will be impressed
The phone quality is the best that I've ever heard on a smartphone. This could be due to the fact I am used to testing more AT&T and Sprint phones and the amazing clarity of Verizon's network really took me by surprise. In any case. I could hear my callers very well and my callers say I sound like I'm on a landline phone. The speakerphone reveals excellent clarity as well.
Battery Life
The Motorola Droid shows how an updated operating system can help save battery life. The HTC Hero and Samsung Moment, both which ran Android 1.5, didn't have the best battery life. The HTC Hero didn't last me more than six hours with heavy use and the Samsung Moment, even with average use, only lasted a couple hours. Android 2 on the Droid manages battery life much better to the point where I am able to go almost a full day with heavy use (GPS, Internet, video, phone calls) without the battery running out. It feels great not to have to bring a charger with me wherever I go.
Overall Impressions
The iPhone has finally met its match. The Motorola Droid certainly won't kill iPhone sales, but it does everything the iPhone does and more. Android 2.0 is a powerful improvement from previous incarnations of the operating system and you can bet Android phones will take over a huge market share in the upcoming year. The Motorola Droid is one of the few phones that I am regretting having to give back. For now, the Droid remains in my arms where I can give it all the love it wants.
