With the upholding of Prop 8 in the supposedly progressive California Supreme Court, and the legalization of gay marriage in the supposedly conservative and what most San Franciscans probably think is the backwoods of Iowa, the rights of our LGBT friends are a hot topic right now.  There is no better time to catch a glimpse into the plight, feelings, and struggles of the Lesbians, Gays, Bi-sexuals and Trans-gender that make-up our world than the 33rd annual Frameline Film Festival, happening June 18-28, 2009.
Opening night kicks off with a screening of "An Englishman in New York", which tells the story of Quentin Crisp, commonly noted as the first "out" man in Britain.  Starring John Hurt, the film chronicles Hurt's later years, as a gay revolutionary in the 70's and 80's Manhattan.  Co-starring Swoozie Kurtz and Sex and the City's recently outed, Cynthia Nixon this film is sure to brush younger audiences up on gay history while entertaining viewers of all ages.

After the Castro Theater screening, a gala follows at the newly renovated Terra Gallery, featuring cocktails, wines, finger foods and deserts from fest sponsors, as well as a drag performance by Mark Payne (as Liza!).  This yea'rs fest, a fantastic kick-off to pride week, is not to be missed.
